Plane Front-Surface Mirrors
Plane mirrors also known as front surface mirrors or first surface mirrors are used in beam steering or reflecting applications.
Knight Optical provides a range of custom plain front surface mirrors generally in four grades of quality. Our custom range of flat plane mirrors is available with custom mirrors coatings or a range of up to six stock coatings to meet applications in the UV, Visible, NIR and FIR applications. Custom precision λ/10 front surface mirrors: Our custom precision λ/10 front surface mirrors can be manufactured from borosilicate or quartz material. Using LEGB borosilicate or equivalent ensures the mirror has low coefficient thermal expansion properties. Custom 1/10th used in high demanding beam steering and reflection applications such as imaging and astronomy. Custom precision λ/10 front surface mirrors can be coated for visible wavelength with aluminium/ SiO₂ and high reflective dielectric coated 99% mirror coating for high energy laser applications.
Custom precision λ/4 front surface mirrors: Our custom ranges of precision λ/4 front surface mirrors are not as expensive as the λ/10 versions. Custom ¼ wave first surface mirrors are used in many scientific instruments where quality is important but the use of the λ/10 versions cannot be justified. We supply custom precision λ/4 front surface mirrors coated for UV, visible, NIR and IR applications. For custom UV applications as low as 180nm our quality ¼ wave mirrors are coated with aluminium/ Mgf². For custom visible applications our λ/4 front surface mirrors are coated with aluminium/SiO₂ and high reflective dielectric coated 99% mirror coating. For custom near infrared applications, we have a range of ¼ wave mirrors coated with dielectric 98% that works efficiently to YAG wavelength of 1064nm. Our range of custom ¼ wavefront surface mirrors for applications in NIR and FIR mirrors are coated with protected silver that performs well in the visible and up to 2000nm in the NIR, and our protected gold coated quality ¼ wave mirrors work from 750nm NIR into far infrared applications.
Custom 1wave over 25mm front surface mirrors: Our custom range of 1 wave over 25mm first surface mirrors are less expensive than ¼ wave and 10th results in demanding applications. These cost-effective custom 1 wave mirrors are available in UV/ aluminium, enhanced aluminium and dielectric 99% coating for use in the visible. Our custom 1 wave mirrors are typically used in more demanding imaging applications where image quality is important.
Our custom range of 1 wave flatness front surface mirror (first surface mirrors) are selected for guaranteed flatness of 1 wave over 25mm aperture and individually tested to ensure they meet specification.
These mid-range quality front surface mirrors are manufactured from standard pre-coated sheet material. We stock this range from UV through to infra-red to meet most scientific instrumentation applications. Our pre-coated sheets of mirror substrates are stocked as 145x100mm plates.
Our custom ranges of first surface mirrors can be supplied with a full range of coatings:
- Enhanced aluminium coating, 94% reflectivity for use in visible applications.
- 99.9% dielectric coating for laser use in visible applications.
- UV aluminium/Mgf² coating for use in UV applications down to 180nm.
- 98.5% NIR dielectric coating for laser use in the near infra-red region.
- Ion-plated protected silver coating for use in NIR to 2000nm.
- Protected gold coating for use from 750nm to far infra-red applications.
