August’s sales highlighted strong demand for three product groups at Knight Optical: UV fused silica lenses, B270 windows, and dome windows.
Used across semiconductor, scientific, telecommunications, security, and environmental monitoring applications, these products support a wide range of optical systems.
UV Fused Silica Lenses
UV fused silica (UVFS) is an excellent substrate for lenses used in the UV and visible wavebands. With high purity and thermal stability, UV fused silica lenses are well suited to demanding applications such as lithography systems and UV-Vis spectroscopy.
Knight Optical offers a range of UV fused silica lenses, including biconvex, cylindrical, plano-convex, and ball lenses.
Custom UV fused silica lenses are also available, including aspheric designs and coatings such as antireflective (AR) coatings to optimise performance.
B270 Windows
B270 is a substrate for optical windows that offers high transmission in the visible and NIR regions. It provides a cost-effective solution for medium-performance optical applications, with transmission of 90% from 400 nm to 2000 nm and excellent versatility.
B270 windows are commonly used in scientific instruments, protective covers for CCTV cameras and control panels, and as substrates for enhanced optics including optical mirrors and beamsplitters.
Knight Optical supplies both toughened and untoughened B270 windows with visible AR coating options at 450-900 nm and 425-680 nm, as well as telecom AR coatings for 1050-1700 nm applications. The telecom AR coating reduces reflection to less than 0.5%, helping optimise performance in fibre optic systems operating in the S and C bands.
Dome Windows
Dome windows, also known as optical domes, protect optical systems while maintaining a wide field of view through their curved parallel surfaces. They are commonly used as protective domes on meteorological sensors and as high-pressure viewports in underwater cameras and submersibles.
Knight Optical offers stock dome windows in BK7 and UV fused silica from 25 mm to 100 mm diameter.
Custom domes can be manufactured from materials including sapphire and acrylic. Antireflective, hydrophobic, and oleophobic coatings are available, and some materials can be supplied with mounting flanges to simplify installation.
August’s top-selling products reflect the broad range of applications supported by precision optics. UV fused silica lenses remain a popular choice for UV and laser-based systems, B270 windows continue to offer a cost-effective solution for visible and NIR applications, and dome windows provide optical protection where a wide field of view is required.
