Potassium Bromide (KBr) is a crystalline compound of potassium and bromide with a rock-salt type structure. It is used in optical applications in the UV, Visible, MWIR, and LWIR waveband regions. KBr has a melting point of 730°C and must be used in a moisture-free environment as the polished surfaces degrade in a moist atmosphere.
The IR grade of Potassium Bromide (KBr) can be used as the windows for Fourier Transform Infra-Red (FTIR) spectroscopy. The wavelength extends from 0.23 to 25µm with a high value of transmission. This transmission averages about 90% from 0.3 to 20µm.

Note: Stectroscopic Standard Grade rectangular windows may be cut from the same sized diameter, so may have curved edges as a result. These types also come in drilled (with 30mm spacing)/undrilled versions for use alone or as a pair.
