Trusted by engineers, manufacturers, and innovators worldwide, and ranging from high‑precision robotic lenses to durable subsea domes, Knight Optical products are used all over the world in a wide variety of industries. Whether your work takes you up into the atmosphere, down to the depths of the ocean, or your feet stay firmly on the ground, we can make sure you’ve got the optics you need to get the job done.

Read on to find out which products were hot for March and why they might be exactly what you need for your next project.

Achromatic Doublet Lenses

Achromatic doublet lenses consist of two lens elements cemented together, one a high-index material and one a low-index material. They are widely used to form images, for example in telescope objectives, and also to focus laser beams. Our quality achromats have been designed and optimised for performance and are available as positive and negative focal length types.

  • Stock Capabilities: 4mm to 110mm diameter doublet lenses with positive focal lengths ranging from 5mm to 500mm.
  • Custom Capabilities: Custom glass combinations, diameters, focal lengths, coatings, and wavelength optimisation available for demanding applications.
  • Application Example: Commonly used for beam focusing, imaging, collimation, and optical systems requiring reduced colour fringing.

Optical Pinholes

A precision aperture used to spatially filter or define a light beam by blocking unwanted light or diffraction, Knight Optical’s range of optical pinhole apertures provide precision beam definition without light scatter, and are available in precision pinhole apertures between 5µm to 100µm, 1.5µm pinhole size tolerances, and with custom or rectangular slit apertures.

  • Stock Capabilities: Offer 25.4mm (1”) diameters with pinholes from 5µm up to 100µm.
  • Custom Capabilities: Custom pinhole sizes, substrates, thicknesses, and surface finishes available for high‑precision optical systems.
  • Application Example: Used for spatial filtering, alignment, beam shaping, and confocal optical setups.

Fluorescence Filters

Knight Optical’s hard coated fluorescence filters sets have been carefully designed to be compatible with a certain fluorophores, ensuring superior transmission at the excitation and emission wavelengths, whilst providing excellent blocking at the crossover.  These optical filters are manufactured to be durable, with an extra-long life, and dimensions suitable for a wide range of microscopes, and each filter set can be used for multiple fluorophores.

  • Stock Capabilities: 7 stock sets for common fluorophores including CY5, TRITC, and DAPI. Each set has a 25mm diameter excitation and emission bandpass filter, as well as a 25.7x36mm dichroic beamsplitter.
  • Custom Capabilities: Custom wavelength ranges, bandwidths, coatings, and filter sizes available for specialised fluorescence systems.
  • Application Example: Used to excite fluorophores and selectively detect emitted light in fluorescence imaging systems.

Knight Optical provide a wide range of both stock and custom optical components through our website to suit your needs. Alternatively, you can reach out to us to discuss a bespoke component if you cannot find what you need.
