Knight Optical Launches Three Brand-New Laser Optic Product Lines

21st Aug 2022

Knight Optical, the leading global supplier of on-spec, metrology-tested optics, has revealed its latest product offering – a trio of components that are suitable for a wide range of laser varieties, particularly ultrafast laser systems.

Providing high-quality optical components for laser-based applications, Knight Optical has met the ever-evolving needs of its customers over the years with in-house innovations, enhanced services and new optics that meet a wider range of its laser customer’s requests than ever before.

The latest arrivals to join its portfolio include:

Broadband & Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors

  • Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors

Intended for use with Yb:YAG, Yb:KYW, and Yb:KGW diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) and laser systems, Knight Optical’s Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors work between 0 and 45°.

  • Broadband Laser Line Mirrors

Operating between 700 and 900nm, Broadband Laser Line Mirrors are ideal for ultrafast pulse lasers, such as Ti:Sapphire lasers, where pulse broadening can be an area of concern.

Notably, both Broadband and Wide-Angle Laser Line Mirrors feature an Ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coating, which is recognised for meeting the most demanding requirements sought by laser system manufacturers worldwide. The quality of these optics is further guaranteed thanks to the application of a Stress Compensating Coating (SCC), which improves surface flatness.

Low GDD Ultrafast Laser Mirrors

For high-performing ultrafast laser applications, Knight Optical’s range of Low GDD Ultrafast Laser Mirrors is an exceptional choice.

With a low Group Delay Dispersion (GDD) of < 20 fs2, they’re specifically designed for use with Yb:YAG (515nm, 1030nm), Yb:KYW (1030nm) and Yb:KGW (1030nm) diode-pumped solid-state lasers (DPSSL) and laser systems, and boast an Ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coating and 20/10 surface quality, meaning scattering is considerably minimised.

What’s more, Knight Optical also offers an advanced alternative with a ‘Superior’ Laser Damage Threshold (LDT) upgrade for an enhanced lifespan.

Thin-Film Polarisers

Available for use at 515nm, 1030nm and 1064nm, these polarisers are coated with dielectric multilayers, which means they feature a high-efficiency level due to negligible absorbance within the coating.

At the design wavelength, they exhibit a separation of s-polarisation greater than 99.9% reflectance from the transmitted p-polarisation (Ts>98%).

High Laser Damage Thresholds & Enhanced Performance

Commenting on the launches and their most important aspects, Knight Optical’s Product Developer, Helen Derbyshire, said:

“With a strong presence within the laser community, we know all too well the obstacles manufacturers have encountered when ordering optics; whether it’s bothersome scattering, unsuitable GDD specifications or short-lived components due to low LDTs.

“When developing our new line of laser optics, we placed emphasis on ensuring high and superior LDT qualities for longer-lasting, premium-quality optics.

“This, coupled with our Ion Beam Sputtered (IBS) coatings and Stress Compensating Coatings (SCC), means that customers working with ultrafast laser systems can rest assured that their application will work to the highest possible standards.”
