Rod and Cone Mirrors

Knight Optical is able to supply cone and 45° rod mirrors for use from, for example, the UV(200 to 400nm) to the IR (0.7 to 1.1µm) wavebands. The cone mirrors and 45° rod mirrors that are custom made, include the following range:

Cone rod mirrors comprise; the cone rod mirrors are made from rod, usually BK7, a standard optical glass that has one rod ground and polished into a cone, much like a rocket nosecone or pencil tip. This tip is coated with a reflective coating, such as aluminium or gold. The mirrors are used, for example, to produce 360° illumination when light is directed toward the cone and is reflected into a circular plane with the rod lens at its centre. Another use is to allow for 360° surveillance of an area by directing the observable scene onto a suitable imager.

45° rod mirrors comprise; The 45° rod mirrors are made by slicing end end off the rod at an angle of 45°. This produces an elliptical mirror that appears circular at 90°, and along the axis, for steering a beam onto a different optical path. The small units can be used, for example, to provide a beam a steering unit for a borescope or fibrescope.
