Infrared optics

What are you looking for in Stock?

Knight Optical supply a wide range of IR optics for use in the infrared wavebands. Optical and mechanical components that are available as stock items can be accessed via the links below.

The wavelength range covers the UV (250 to 400nm), Visible (400to 700nm), NIR (700nm to 1.2µm), Mid-IR (3 to 5µm), and Far-IR (8 to 30µm+).  Suitable IR optical materials are chosen to optimise the design and to meet any reasonable specification.

Sapphire (Al2O3) is used for windows, lenses (spherical and diamond turned aspheric), prisms, custom, and wafers for the 0.2 to 4µm waveband with at least an 80% transmission.

Germanium (Ge) is widely used for windows, lenses (spherical, meniscus, and diamond turned aspheric), prisms, and blanks for the 2 to about 11µm with about 40% transmission.

Quartz (SiO2) is used for windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.2 to 3µm waveband with over a 90% transmission.  There are two widely used grades, UV and IR.

Silicon (Si) is a commonly used material for the 1 to 6µm waveband (transmission 50%) and is used to make windows, lenses (spherical, meniscus, and diamond turned aspheric), prisms, and blanks.

Amorphous Transmitting Infra-red Radiation (AMTIR) material is used to manufacture windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.9 to 10µm waveband with about 70% transmission.

Barium Fluoride (BaF2) is similarly used to make windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.2 to 8µm waveband with about 90% transmission.

Calcium Fluoride (CaF2) is used to make windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.3 to 8µm waveband with about 90% transmission.

Calcite (CaCO3) is used to manufacture polarisers, windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.2 to 3µm waveband with about 80% transmission.

Caesium Iodide (CsI) makes windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.3 to over 40µm.

Gallium Arsenide (GaAs) is a material that is used to make windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for 2 to 15µm with over 50% transmission.

Thallium Bromide Iodide (KRS-5) is used for windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.7 to 30µm with at least 70% transmission.

Lithium Fluoride (LiF) is used in the manufacture of windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.2 to 5µm waveband that has a 90% plus transmission.

Magnesium Fluoride (MgF2) is used for anti-reflection coatings and as windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for the 0.3 to 5µm waveband with at least a 90% transmission.

Potassium Bromide (KBr) and Potassium Chloride (KCl) are materials used for windows, lenses, and prisms for wide bandwidth (0.3 to 20µm plus) spectroscopy.  Blanks are also available.

Sodium Chloride (NaCl) is a water soluble material that is used to make windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for wide bandwidth spectroscopy (0.2 to 10µm).

Zinc Selenide (ZnSe) and Zinc Sulphide (ZnS) are materials used to make windows, lenses (spherical, meniscus, and diamond turned), prisms, and blanks for thermal imaging systems.

Yttrium Aluminium Garnet (YAG) is used for windows, lenses, prisms, and blanks for laser components.

Infrared Filters are available as interference bandpass, longpass, shortpass, and neutral density for beam attenuation, gas emission bands, and semiconductor filters.

Anti-reflective glass with single and multi-layer coatings for the Far Infra-Red (FIR).

Beamsplitters for the IR using suitable coatings for reflection and anti-reflection.

Polarisers for the IR are made from material, such as, Calcite.

Gas cells for IR spectroscopy.
