Knight Optical's high quality holographic research range of diffraction gratings are used to separate white light into its component wavelengths. This type of grating has lower stray-light levels than ruled gratings and are available in closer rulings. Blazed holographics are also available with a similar profile and efficiency to ruled types, for use at UV wavelengths.
The manufacturing process differs to that of ruled gratings, allowing for closer lines with less structure error and hence less stray light. The improved performance of these holographic gratings makes them ideal for spectroscopy applications in the instrumentation and medical testing sectors, where efficient and high performance are required.

Data for calculation
Where G=groove density (lines/mm) and n is the order of diffraction (any integer). Blazed gratings have facets inclined at an angle b to the surface to concentrate light into the first order (n=+1). When the grating is used in the Littrow condition (retroreflection, i=i`) peak efficiency will be near the blaze wavelength shown (= (2/G) sin b).
