There are two builds of beamsplitter, plate beamsplitters and cube beamsplitters. Knight Optical supply both types of beamsplitters in UV options for ultraviolet instrument applications.
Custom UV grade plate beamsplitters are available in several grades of quality and R/T ratios depending on your budget and application. Our custom standard range have faces with less demanding flatness but still suitable for most applications. Our custom precision range of UV plate beamsplitters are manufactured from precision polished substrates where flatness and parallel specifications are tightly controlled, particularly important in imaging applications.
Both precision and standard ranges of custom UV plates have accurate dielectric UV beamsplitter coating on one face with a UV antireflective coating on the second face reducing ghosting. Substrates in both cases are UV grade fused silica that works efficiently down to 175nm whilst achieving high transmission performance of 85% at 185nm. Several grades of fused silica are available including Corning 7980 2G, Spectrosil 2000 (Spectrosil B) and JGS1.
UV plate beamsplitters are used in many applications from fluorescence microscopy to illumination and design, security instrumentation to interferometry.
Custom UV grade cube beamsplitters divide the input beam into two orthogonal beams of equal intensity across the range of the UV broadband coatings applied to the input and output surfaces together with the 45° interface. The cube will produce the two orthogonal rays with the same optical path length. Custom UV grade cube beamsplitters have UV anti-reflection coatings on the input and output surfaces with the centre interface having the thin film coating to reflect and transmit the input beam. The coatings can be designed to provide a polarising, or non-polarising, split of the beam with the intensities equal. The intensities can be designed to be at a different ratio, such as, 50/50 or 70/30, but this would be for the non-polarising cubes.
Knight Optical supply high quality custom UV grade beamsplitters made to our exact specification. Every component is individually tested on our Agilent Cary 5000 spectrophotometers for use from 175nm to 3300nm fitted with a UMA device for testing coatings in transmission and reflection at any given angle. We also have a DRA device fitted for testing complex beamsplitter components. Our Agilent 660 FTIR spectrophotometer is used for coatings between 3.5µm and 45µm. All tested by our highly skilled technicians in our state of art metrology lab to ensure all components meet our high quality standards.
