Non-Polarising Beamsplitter Cubes

Knight Optical is able to supply custom optical beamsplitter cubes for use in the UV, Vis, and NIR wavebands. The optical beamsplitters that are available as custom, range include:

Beamsplitter cubes can be manufactured into various configurations such as: polarising and non-polarising, narrow, standard, and broadband coatings for the input and output windows. The coatingon the hypotenuse of the two 45° half cube prisms can be designed for any ratio between the reflecting and transmission ratio, such as 50:50, 90:10, or 80:20. This coating can be arranged for cemented 45° prisms to form a solid cube. The 45° prisms would ensure equal optical path lenghts
for the two output beams. An extension of the solid beamsplitter is to add another 45° prism that is cemented to an output face and has its hypotenuse coated as a mirror. The result will be an two parallel beams of equal intensity. The optical path lengths will be unequal, but a solid cube of the same side dimensions could be cemented to the first output beam to balance the optical path lengths.

These custom beamsplitter cubes are used in various equipment such as high quality digital movie camera that use at least three, one for each colour, red, green, or blue. The polarising beamsplitter will produce polarised light, where it reflects the s-polarised with the p-polarised transmitted. Such beamsplitter cubes are used to split the randomly polarised input beam into two orthogonal beams that are linearly polarised. The extinction ratio will be better than 1000:1. The non-polarised beamsplitter cube will split a randomly polarised input beam into two orthogonal beams that are also non-polarised.

Knight Optical supply high quality custom cube beamsplitters made to our exact specification. Every component is individually tested on our Agilent Cary 5000 spectrometers
fitted with a UMA device for testing coatings in transmission and reflection at any given angle. We also have a DRA device fitted for testing complex beamsplitter components. Our Agilent 660 FTIR spectrometer is used for coatings between 3.5µm and 45µm. All tested by our highly skilled technicians in our state of art metrology lab to ensure all components meet our high quality standards.
