UV Polarisers

All light is polarised but in most situations the light is a mixture of randomly distributed polarisations that the overall effect is that the light is effectively unpolarised. The polarisation components generally either create polarised light by filtering out light of all but one state of polarisation or operate on polarised light to modify the state of polarisation. Knight Optical supplies a range of custom polarisers for a range of UV applications. Our custom UV polarizers cover waveband (280nm to 450nm).

Custom UV grade sheet polarisers: Sheet polarisers were previously made by Polaroid/3M and marketed under the brand name ‘Vikuti’ are now obsolete, however Knight Optical still hold substantial stocks in full sheet sizes. Our UV grade HNP’B replacement material is very efficient at 290nm and available in sheet sizes over 150mm square which can be used for custom UV polarisers made to any shape or size and also laminated to glass and acrylic substrates..

Custom UV grade Lyot depolarizer: The Lyot depolarizer consists of quartz prisms that are cemented together with the optical axis of the first prism orientated vertically and the second prisms optical axis at 45° to the first prisms axis. The lengths of the prisms are constrained to a length ratio of 1:2, that is the first prism has a thickness of 1 unit and the second thickness is twice the thickness of the first prism.
