Polarisers

All light is polarised but in most situations the light is a mixture of randomly distributed polarisations that the overall effect is that the light is effectively unpolarised. The polarisation components generally either create polarised light by filtering out light of all but one state of polarisation or operate on polarised light to modify the state of polarisation.
