Ball lenses are excellent for fibre coupling as they have very low spherical aberration, so focus and collimate light accurately. Sapphire ball lenses can be used from 170nm to 5.3µm and are extremely hard and durable. Ball lenses are used for focusing light into small fibres, and for use as emitters and detectors. Sapphire ball lenses and BK7 ball lenses very economical and available in large quality at short notice. Other types are also available such as Ruby Ball Lenses. Knight Optical can also offer AR coated Ball Lenses at short notice.
