| High index planoconvex lenses can have very little aberrations for a monochromatic on axis object. This makes them ideal for focussing laser beams. Generally they are cheaper than achromatic doublets but do not perform quite as well. The higher index gives them a greater residual surface reflection unless they are AR coated.
